Stereotyping, which can be used positively and negatively, is something everyone uses every day; it is found in our humor, how people describe one another, and beliefs. People stereotype without knowing it; it is a way we use to help us understand a group. The problem with stereotyping is that it’s a self –opinion about a group, not an individual. Everyone has their own unique and distinct personalities, just as everyone has their own fingerprints so it is unfair to be judged quickly by people who do not know others as an individual. Everyone is a victim of stereotyping and have stereotyped before. It is a worldwide issue that can be easily solved yet it continues every day. The causes of stereotyping come from many places, a major†¦show more content†¦Teens are overlooked and not given the same attention, such as simple care like help cross a busy street or disinfectant for a cut, as younger kids just because of how high school students are portrayed. Some tee ns may be known as being infamous, but that does not apply for the entire population. TV shows contain a lot of stereotypical contents (www.123helpme.com). Shows that portray people of a different race may be shown as how the people in real life may act or with an accent. This information in fed to viewers and may be taken for real and even funny if it was comedic. Stereotypes can be caused by anything, hatred, unwillingness to make fair judgments or it could come from propaganda. Stereotyping has many effects, whether positive or negative. Teenagers are constantly stereotyped by adults. The media makes this even worse; books such as Parenting Your Out-of-Control Teenager makes parents think that there is something wrong with their child and the whole teenage population as well. When asked about how adults stereotyping teens made her feel, this teen stated, â€Å"An important issue is how adults treat me just because I’m a teenager. Sure there are bad ones out there but Iâ €™m not one of them. It doesn’t just hurt but it’s disrespectful when security figures follow me around like I’m some kind of loser or criminal.† (Poole). Parents stress over too much of the negative things that may or may not be true about their child.
